Welcome

Welcome

Celebrate the joie de vivre, embracing each day with enthusiasm, energy and spontaneity. 50Free is a mindset, not an age; it is a celebration and encouragement to live abundantly, to be happy, healthy and whole.

I've lived a charmed life. There might be some naysayers who'd argue otherwise, but this is MY life and boy, has it been wonderful. And to think, it's not over yet! I was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. The youngest of five, I was a happy, nerdy bookworm. My parents took us on family trips from New York to Florida, but I traveled much, much further right in my bedroom, lost in the pages of yet another book. I flew before I ever stepped into an airport, swam oceans when there was no local pool and scaled mountains in my mind that overshadowed the few hills in my neighborhood. Sure, I ran and played outdoors -- my brothers made sure of that -- but I fell asleep every night with a book slipping out of my fingers.

It was all preparation. I spent a huge portion of Part Two of my life matching the images I conjured from my books to the realities I experienced as I traveled the world. And now, with an empty nest, I'm kicking Part Three into high gear. As a woman of a certain age (oh, how I love that term!), I look life squarely in the face each day, make choices and expect certain outcomes. My actions may not differ much from what I did 30 years ago, but my perspective bares little resemblance to that time. My expectations are higher. I perceive less time to rectify foolish decisions, so I try hard not to make them.  I am not, however, bound or rigid or overly cautious. No, quite the opposite: I am 50Free.

Spontaneity is so much a part of me now. My children are grown and independent (hallelujah), my parents are healthy and independent (glory, hallelujah), and my best friend loves to experience life as much as I do (Suitcase?  Let's GO!). So you might find us anywhere:  home or abroad, city or country, mountain or beach, land or sea. There's almost no place on earth that I don't want to go. I've had lots of adventures, but my bucket list is still growing. I keep my passport ready and suitcases nearby. So many places to go, so much to see and do...I can't tell you how much fun it is, and I don't want to.  What joy is there in living vicariously? I mean, really, is that even living? No. Come see for yourself.  Let's live, learn and love more than we ever imagined.

Aging is not for the faint of heart. It is only for the bold, the brave and the intrepid.  Growing, maturing and aging should not be done in secret, nor should maladies be the only aspect of aging we publicize. This is our time to celebrate all we've experienced, learned, gained and shared on this journey. This is our prime teachable moment! Let's see what God has hidden for our discovery. Let find what we've built in plain sight. In my heart, I know it's time. Are you ready? Take the limits off. Get rid of all your excuses. No money? There are plenty of fun, free things to do. Supporting others? OK, but who is supporting you? Afraid? What will you gain when you conquer that fear? Not now? Then when?

I've made my decision: this is my time. And my dream is to share it with you. Yes, I really do want to inspire you to pursue your biggest, wackiest, scariest, most powerful dreams. Through this blog I'm going to take you places and introduce you to men and women from all walks of life who are committed to traveling, eating, aging and  living well, people who are pursuing their dreams. My prayer is that you make that same commitment.  Time to go -- I'm 50Free!

50Free is a new website and blog about aging dynamically and well.  We want to celebrate the joie de vivre, embracing each day with enthusiasm, energy and spontaneity. 50Free is a mindset, not an age; it is a celebration and encouragement to live abundantly, to be happy, healthy and whole.

This is our forum to share inspiration and to investigate issues in an environment that views aging as a blessing; physical health as an expected and achievable right; and emotional well being as the reward for taking charge of your destiny.  We want to reach men and women with regular features, and occasional out-of-the-box specials:

  • Travel Well: Road Warriors – Travel adventures and group trips
  • Eat Well: Live It, Not Diet – wellness, fitness, exercise, spiritual well-being, inspiration
  • Age Well: FreeStyle – literature, entertainment, sports, music, theater, hobbies, crafts
  • Live Well: Brave New World –  Education, technology, politics, relationships, care-taking, entrepreneurship, volunteering, mentoring, side hustles, literature, entertainment, sports, music, theater, hobbies, crafts, Home decor, design, art, entertaining

We want to balance and infuse what is out there with more reality and much more joy.  We are more than our latest ailment, more than our new prescription.  We are happy, confident, comfortable in our own skin and living life to the fullest.

Want to help us spread joy?  Share Finally50Free with a friend.  And what about your story? We want to share your stories on all aspects of positive aging.  How about adding a single blog post or maybe writing a regular feature.  Blog posts should be 200-500 words; longer blogs may be divided into a series of entries.  Posts will be refreshed frequently and old posts will be archived on the website for easy retrieval.  Include a brief bio and a headshot, if available.  Include any relevant photos or short videos you are authorized to publish, along with media credits and your website info so we can link your blogpost.  We reserve the right to accept, reject and/or edit blogposts.

Any questions?  Submissions?  Reach me at info@Finally50Free.com  Thank you for joining us and sharing you.

Live well!
